Five Brands Using Instagram Well

17 August 2012COMMENTS

We are all aware of the incredible popularity of Instagram, and now a report by social analytics firm Simply Measured has highlighted how more and more brands are using the platform to engage with customers.

The report looked at the ten brands who have achieved the highest number of followers, likes and comments on Instagram. I suspected fashion brands would dominate this list - surely with their brand identities being driven by aesthetics, style and 'coolness' - however the top ten are a real mixed bag - see below.

I have quizzed the Acknowledgement team on which brands they think are doing a great job on Instagram, these are the five they think are doing 'Instagram' best:

1. Threadless

As a brand who are all about quirky designs, Threadless use Instagram well. They take their customers behind the scenes with shots of their designers at work. The team there seem to be young and their shots are really fun, making them great brand ambassadors.

2. NASA

Whilst NASA can't accept private donations (as they're funded by the United States Congress Federal Budget) it is still important that they retain the support of the American public and get people excited about their work.  This isn't hard to achieve through Instagram when their work is something as magnificent and beautiful as space.  Their photos of space and earth are incredible and with the accompanying commmentary is also infomative and fascinating.

3. Citizen M

We have previously written about how Citizen M successfully employ a digital strategy that compliments their offline offering. and their Instagram account certainly contributes to this. They incorporate fantastic shots of their hotels whilst recently tying Instagram in with their 'CitizenM Reports' project.

4. BA

BA were active on Instagram during the Olympics, taking photos of athletes in the Olympic Village for their Home Advantage campaign. They also worked with One Direction on board a BA flight as part of their Flying Start charity.

5. E News

E have an Instagram Facebook App enabling them to tie in their Instagram feed with their 750,000 plus Facebook fans easily.  Their fans enjoy a feed of celebrity collages, 'Celebrity Best Dressed'  and celebrity news.
