Time Out To Launch Online Social TV Guide

25 January 2012COMMENTS

Time Out magazine are set to launch an online social TV guide to rival 2 screen apps like Zeebox. The new guide is set to launch Q1 2012 and is being produced in conjunction with Red Bee Media.

Like Zeebox, the social guide will allow users to like, share, recommend and favourite content. You'll also be able to see which programs are trending on Twitter - these will be colour coded red, orange and yellow (hot to warm Twitter activity).

As with other 2 screen apps the premise is simple - to augment the TV experience for users. Viewers are more likely to watch something and share if they know friends and family are tuned in at the same time. The focus here is on online rather than a tablet or mobile device.

What's more, the proposed update to their existing TV guide is super simple. Unlike Zeebox where there is a large volume of information to be consumed about different shows, this is just a TV guide with some additional icons to show you what friends like and what is being talked about on Twitter.

With a big name behind it, it will be interesting to see how succesful this is for Time Out. It appears to be an easy and simple win for the already popular TV Guide service they offer, and will certainly put them ahead of other online guide services such as the Radio Times.
